Pediatric Dentistry, or Pedodontics

Pediatric Dentistry, or Pedodontics, is that branch of dentistry dealing with the oral health of infants and children through adolescence, including treatment of young people with special health care needs. Pedodontics is one of nine specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.

Specialization in this field requires two to three years of additional training following dental school. This training focuses on the special oral health needs of young patients, including preventative care and techniques to ensure that your child is educated about his oral health. Special attention is paid to the office environment and communication skills of the dentist and staff to make the dental office a safe and comfortable place for your child.
